Praise Dance JoAnn, author of Pressing Into His Presence and co-founder of Principal Things Ministry, began dancing in elementary school and discovered the joy of liturgical dance in college, where she earned a B.A. in Math/Computer Science and an M.B.A. in Business Administration. At Providence, her "prayer is that students will leave my class committed to using their whole being to worship the Lord," she says. JoAnn is wife to Quinton and home educates their two sons. |
Executive Program Director, God's Glory, Advanced Orchestra, Jazz Band Terri, founder and music director of Providence, conducts Advanced Orchestra, God's Glory Chamber Ensemble, and Jazz Band. She holds a B.A. in Instrumental Music and has 28 years teaching experience in piano, clarinet, flute and saxophone. In past years, Terri also directed the Maryland Heights Community Center Band and has been active in church music ministry and teaching for many years. She and her husband Wade have home schooled their four children since kindergarten. |
Drama Department Director, Administrative Assistant As a teacher for over 20 years, Robin's passion for education extends to multiple roles as an education coordinator for Oxford Learning, a GED instructor, and a leader in her inner-city church. She earned her B.S. degree in Secondary Education- English and taught in both public and alternative school settings before she and her husband Stephen moved to St. Louis, where they began home schooling their four children. "Watching the drama students learn about sharing the spotlight and celebrating the successes of each other inspires me to apply these skills in my own life," Robin says. |

Drama II Stephen's passion for loving people is a vital part of his work as an inner-city church planter as well as in his interactions with his students at Providence. Working there, teaching drama classes, building sets and envisioning the blocking for a host of plays have all served as creative outlets for Stephen as well as a reminder of his own acting days, when he participated in community theatre for six years on everything from Shakespeare to Camelot to Man of La Mancha. Stephen is married to Robin and father to four home schooled children. |
Instrumental Department Director, Intermediate Orchestra Connie has filled many roles at Providence for the past six years— teaching Beginning Theory, accompanying Intermediate Orchestra, and conducting Intermediate Orchestra for seven years. In the past, she's enjoyed playing keyboard in the church praise band and directing her church's junior high choir. She's taught piano at her home studio for 12 years, and also teaches four different levels of bands and beginning music theory classes at North County Christian School. "I believe God has given me a passion first for children and secondly for music," Connie says. "God's gift of music is such a joy to be able to share with others." She and her husband John have two home schooled daughters. |
Stomp Tracie is in her tenth year of home schooling and has been actively involved in Providence for nine years. In addition to teaching Stomp, she has taught the Beginning Theory/Handbells class. Tracie holds a B.A. in Social Sciences with a Developmental Psychology focus and an M.A. in Economics. She is an adjunct lecturer in the Economics Departments at Washington University and UMSL. Her previous experience in performing arts includes vocal, choral, and dramatic collegiate and community productions, and she served as children's choir director at Halls Ferry Christian Church for three years. Tracie and her husband Hugh home school their four children. |

Beginning Orchestra Cheryl has played both piano and trombone since childhood and continues to enjoy both instruments. She received two B.S. degrees, in Microbial and Cellular Biology and in Medical Technology, and worked for several years in these fields before beginning to home school 16 years ago. Cheryl has been Providence's Beginning Orchestra teacher since 2001, and assisted in the class for two years previously. "More than seeing the children learn and grow in their music, I enjoy seeing them grow into young men and women whose lives God is directing," Cheryl says. She has accompanied Intermediate Choir since 1999. Cheryl and her husband Jay have four home schooled children. |
Guitar Debbie's work experience ranges from performing with choral groups (one for over 20 years), writing and performing music, and teaching youth groups, children's camps, small Bible studies, and VBS. She has played and enjoyed music and drama for almost 40 years, including teaching at Providence for five years. "Music is a gift from God," Debbie says, "and to teach our children music is to give them a way to bless others and glorify God for the rest of their lives." She and her husband have home schooled five children for 10 years, and now enjoy their six grandchildren. |
Keyboard Annette has 22 years experience teaching in the general music classroom and working with children's choirs, and 20 years teaching private music lessons. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree with a piano major. Currently Annette teaches piano, voice, and beginning guitar to several students in her home studio. She is married to Jim. |

Beginning Recorder Tammy has homeschooled for 15 years and has been teaching at Providence for 8 years. She has taught for years in her church Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. Prior to her teaching days, Tammy received her degree as a dental assistant. She is married to Bob and mother to two homeschooled girls. |
Choral Department Director, Advanced Choir Judy worked for 13 years in community development in North Africa, but her B.M. (and later a Master's) in Music Education translated into seven years of teaching elementary music and six years as Providence's Advanced Choir director. She has also accompanied, led children's worship at church, taught Sunday school, and participated in her church's worship team. This is her sixth year at Providence. Judy and her husband Gerald home school their two sons. |
Drama I Shelley has homeschooled for 11 years and has been teaching at Providence for four years, including the Beginning Recorder class and assisting with drama for two years. "I have enjoyed seeing the kids' faces light up when they can put the notes together and play a song," she says, "and also enjoy working with the older ages of kids as well; it's so rewarding to see them come together and work as a team." Shelley and her husband Dave home school their six children. |

Guitar, Drama II Darla holds a B.S.N. in Nursing and spent eight years in the field, but she also has a wide range of teaching experience: in Bible classes (over 25 years), as student assistant to a grade school special education teacher, as assistant teacher in a school district, and for 32 years teaching Sunday School. She played French horn and piano for 10 years and still enjoys piano and guitar. "As I teach guitar and drama classes each Thursday," Darla says, "it is beyond cool to see the kids start each year with only a half-size guitar and an eager spirit and persevere through theory and technical lessons to performing with their classmates at a concert or play." She and her husband Walter have home schooled their two children since kindergarten. |
Beginning Violin, Choir II Mary is a 14 year veteran of Providence, where she began working as a parent volunteer in 1995. She taught Beginning Theory and Beginning Recorder, and assisted Elementary Level Choir before taking on the job of teaching Intermediate Choir for the past four years. She also assists in Beginning Orchestra and teaches the Beginning Violin class. "I have seen a lot of changes through the years, and people come and go," Mary says. "Providence's address has changed but one thing stays the same: the desire and determination to provide home schooled children with the best music education we can for the least expense." Mary and her husband Scott home schooled five of their children. |
Beginning Theory Angie is in her second year of teaching Beginning Theory at Providence. She is married to Michael and has six children, whom she introduced to music theory while home schooling. In earlier years, she earned a B.A. degree in Marketing and worked as a college recruiter, a girls' soccer and basketball coach, an emergency nanny, and a substitute teacher. Currently, Angie tutors special needs and mainstream children in her home. |
